ANU PhD Scholarship

The Australian National University (ANU) offers this stipend scholarship to Higher Degree by Research candidates undertaking a PhD or Professional Doctorate by Research across any discipline. Open to both domestic and international applicants, the award provides a tax-free stipend of AUD 39,069 per annum for 3.5 years, paid fortnightly. Recipients also receive travel and removal allowances for relocating to Canberra, a thesis allowance, a dependent child allowance for international students, and paid medical and parental leave. No separate scholarship application is required: all eligible candidates who apply for admission to an ANU PhD or Professional Doctorate by Research program are automatically considered. Applicants need a Bachelor's degree with first-class honours (or upper second-class honours in some Colleges) or a Master's degree with a research component from a recognised university. International applicants must apply for admission by the Round 1 international deadline of 31 August (for commencement the following January-March); a smaller Round 2 closes 15 April for later-year starts. Because award is tied to admission timing, prospective scholars are strongly encouraged to contact a prospective ANU supervisor or the relevant Graduate Studies Convener well before submitting, since a well-matched supervisor and refined research proposal both strengthen the ranking outcome.
